They can "double or triple clutch" it seems. Every year I have about 4 or so rounds of eggs and tadpoles in my fountain. Down here in Houston they start to breed about late May and go all the way through Septemeber. I would not suggest breeding too often. As with any animal, it will, as you stated, weaken the toad. So if you do not have a strict purpose for breeding and just want to do it recreationally, I suggest doing it very, very rarely. Andy
