Hi All,
The American Toads have come back once more to breed at our pond. I'm wondering if anyone else watches these toads sing and mate because I'm wondering if anyone else notices that there are always much more males than females? Also, we've been having strange weather and the temperature dropped below freezing AFTER the toads layed eggs (a couple weeks ago). I"m suspecting this killed most of the eggs since today I noticed the eggs were a frothy smelly white mass (obviously half-rotten). I did notice only one new hatchling tadpole in the water below. ( I hope to God there are more) My question is, once a female lays eggs will she come back and lay some more? Or is she done compleatly for the year?
