Water plant are a bonus for the toads. Mine spend a lot of their time sitting on the submerged plants that are near the surface, they seem to really enjoy it. You can get some soft fake plants or real. I like real ones better because I'm a big fan of live water plants and I think that it looks better. But fake plants are easier to take care of and they are more natural looking and softer than they used to be, so it's your choice.

35 gallons! You could house quite a few toads in a tank that size! :) Make sure you get at least two though, it's fun to see how they interact with each other.
