well when it comes to common names, the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, it also will vary from area to area. And as john said, its the more exotic species that sometimes gives us trouble defining the two. i guess it would be less confusing if we could just use scientific names. as far as the traditional definition, i would agree with yours.
