As for frilling while basking, it is their way of venting (like how bearded dragons open their mouths while basking)--or similar to dogs panting. Lizards tend to do it when they are hot but too lazy or enjoying themselves too much to move! Their way of thermoregulating. Frillies extend their frills as they are somewhat connected to the jaw movement. I also think it helps to cool them off--get that flap of skin off their neck--just like long hair.

:Just beautiful, beautiful dragons tetraodon! You ought to be proud! I don't know why they frill while basking either. All I can tell you is that mine does it to.
