All I use is a hook. I have a pair of light boots that just keep ankle deep water out (they are surf boots used for...surfing heh), but they would hardly keep a bite from occuring. I just flip a board with the hook or at least lift it up far enough for me to grab it safely. But that is half the danger in field herping...sometimes gloves may not work. You just have to make sure you know what to do if/when something bad does occur. No method is foolproof. Planning is the only thing that will really help you in the end. Andy
