I just got back from Ocklawaha (in the Ocala National Forest) Yesterday. I did not have Great luck finding snakes.
I only got out 2 and a half days though I was at the Tampa show. I was out on the 6th and it was 89 F a bit warm.
I will list what I saw.
4 Racers (one was eating a spade foot, the snake ended up biting me several times and it felt like I was envenumated)
5 Crowned snakes
1 Water snake Nerodia? that was about 3-3.5 feet I did not catch it but it was about as thick as my wrist. It was Jet black Maybe erithrogaster?
Fence lizards and Scrubs
5 lined skinks
1 Broad Head
I thought I found a Slender Eastern Glass but I think it was a Juv eastern as it did not have a dorsal line.
6-lined Race runners
Brown anoles in Port Richi
Spade Foots and they were calling like crazy t about 7pm
I found one that looked like an Oak
Cooters got one crossing before a car smashed it
1 large Snapper smashed on road it was Loaded with eggs. : (
Oh ya and a bunch of gators on the Ocklawaha River.
I was keeping my fingers crossed for a few more snakes. But not bad for 2.5 days.
