Here in the U.K lab blocks are really hard to get so at the moment I am trying to get some pig pellets which I have been told are good for rodents. For some reason there seems to be a shortage of pig pellets in central London :-) At the moment I am feeding a dry "complete dog food" to my mice, this is a chicken, rice and veg mix to which I add a few broken dog biscuits, dry bread, uncooked dry pasta and any broken biscuits what the kids dont eat (or find)and various breakfast cereals. My question is... Is this a balanced diet for mice ? I am not sure if the mice should be eating such a high animal protein diet,It would seem to me that they should be eating a veggie type food with a smaller animal (meat) content. At the moment I am cleaning then out every 4th day, is there any way of making them smell a bit better ? I am at the moment putting vanilla extract in the water supply at a dosage of 5ml to 1 gallon (imperial)of water, which is cutting down on the smell to a degree. I am wondering if the high protein diet is the cause of them smelling so bad and if a more veggie base diet would smell better. Any other idea's ?
