Is this a problem with my female rat?

I have a female rat that should give birth pretty soon or should of already given birth. This borning she built a nest and when i picked it up, there was no babies. What i saw instead was a little bit of blood on her vagina area. When i saw this, I assumed that birth was around the corner. About 6 hours later when i got home i noticed a little bit more blood and no babies. Is this normal?
