Forum FAQ
Welcome to kingsnake.com's Forum FAQ. People seem to have the same questions and problems when posting on the forums and this is designed to alleviate some of these problems.

Why do I have to register to post

Because we care about the safety and privacy of children online, we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). COPPA and its accompanying FTC regulation establish United States federal law that protects the privacy of children using the Internet. This act requires that we prevent children under 13 from posting to these forums, and to do that we implemented a registration system. We do not use the data gathered by the system for anything other than to comply with this law and all data collected will not be shared with any other companies or individuals. To register to post please go to http://www.kingsnake.com/coppa.html

Every time I post I have to re-register, why?

Our registration system is based on something called "cookies". A cookie is a small file that our registration system places in your web browser and contains your account status info. Our posting program looks for the presence of this cookie before it allows a post to be processed. If your browser does not have this cookie, it will not allow the post to be completed. If you entered the wrong birthdate when you registered and it tells you you are unable to post, you will need to clear your browsers cookies and re-register. For more information on cookies please visit http://www.kingsnake.com/coppa_help.html

Can I edit an message once it is posted?

No. The current posting system does not allow you to edit or change an message. Once its posted its posted so make sure you want to say what your saying.

Can I remove a post once it is posted?

No. Only the webmaster has the ability to remove posts. If you would like to remove a post in the forums send an email to the webmaster. This takes 48-72 hours.

I tried to post a message and got this warning message: "WARNING!!! The message you attempted to post violates the terms of service of this web site. A copy of this message including your IP address and time and date have been forwarded to the webmaster and your post has been blocked."

We have filters implemented on our message boards to prevent the posting of a variety of things. We don't allow profanity and that is blocked. Additionally numerous individuals have attempted to circumvent our "no advertising" policies and due to repeated abuse of this rule, their web site URLs have also been blocked. Finally a small number of specific individuals, usernames, and email addresses, and sometimes even ISPs of persons or companies that have repeatedly abused our site have also been blocked. If you aren't one of these companies or individuals, and you haven't posted profanity, don't worry.

Can I put html tags in my posts

Yes. You can use HTML tags in the body of the message, including inline image tags, and links. You cannot change the posts background color. At the end of each line the script automatically adds a line break tag. Remember to resolve all links completely for images and URLs. (i.e. make sure to put the WHOLE address including the http: as an example linking to an external image would be something like http://www.mypage.com/snake.jpg not /snake.jpg). To use learn how to use .html please take a look at Gordon Hake's W3 Writer -A Basic HTML Tutorial

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts

No. You can NOT use HTML tags in any field except body of the message. You can ONLY use HTML tags in the body of the message, including inline image tags, and links. You cannot change the posts background color. At the end of each line the script automatically adds a line break tag

Why are there colons in the message when I try to post a followup?

Colons appear in the message dialog box when you try to followup up on a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the previous document.

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Please reload the page in your browser and it should then appear.

How to prevent posting the same post multiple times.

Perhaps the most commonly seen problem is that of multiple posting. Generally this occurs because people post, then use the BACK button of their browser to view the index page. When this happens your web browser(Netscape or Internet Explorer) loads the page NOT from the website, but from the CACHE the browser sets up on your local hard drive. This was the page you originally viewed and NOT the page that exists on the website. Hit the RELOAD button on your browser. The page may or may not show the updated version with your post at the top. If it doesn't you must "flush" the browser's cache manually. Please consult the browsers HELP file for instructions.

How to post an image in your post

There is no way to upload an image from your local hard drive or computer to the forum. In order to place an image in your post, the image must exist some place on the web, either on a web page, or at an image hosting site such as kingsnake.com's photo gallery .

Once the image is physically placed on the web, often an attempt to post an image in a classified ad or message board post is unsuccessful, usually resulting in the broken image symbol below...

To prevent this from occuring in your post make sure of the following:

  • The file has been uploaded to your website or directory
  • The proper permissions have been set to make your directory and file viewable on the web
  • you have entered the proper address of the image file on your website
  • you have the proper image file format
(the filename must end in .gif or .jpg to be displayed by web browsers)
