First of all, I must say I've enjoyed reading these posts from everyone on the topic of "nature vs. nuture." For the sake of keeping my own tempers from flaming, I'll keep the majority of my opinions to myself. However, I do want to make a few comments.
First off, I appreciate all of you who replied with care info, whether it be good or poor advice. Ingo, I personally would like to extend my hand in friendship (and peace..hehe) to you. As a junior in college working on my bachelor's in organismic biology, I fully understand your viewpoints on the care of these animals, and all animals to be honest. I am pursuing a career in herpetology, and so that drives me to find out the best possible care for the ANIMALS, not the care that will provide me with the biggest thrill. While I offer no judgement on JoeM's behave, because I feel that he offers the most basic requirements needed for the survival of the animals he keeps, I do disagree with his mindset as a whole. Perhaps his animals are not suffering, but I feel that all wild animals need to be treated as such. I am a firm believer in respect of wild instincts and actions, and if an animal happens to give me some of its attention, then I'm happy for it. However, I try not to force or train any of my animals into a behavior that would be considered taboo in the wild.
Now that I have that off my chest, I hope I have offered an unbiased counter to what has been said.
Also, Ingo, may I email you directly with some specific questions about your care sheet? There are a few details I would like to clarify with you, if you don't mind.
Thank you all and happy herping!
