Just thought I'd pass along some useful info. Lots of folks maintain their box turtles outdoors year round. If any of you happen to do this as well then I urge all of you to closely inspect your enclosures, beneath any objects in the enclosure or yard. I just found 13 hatchlings between today and yesterday. All of the hatchlings have appeared to have used up all of their yolk reserves, are active and appear to be in good health.

It is very likely that these eggs were laid in various places and the small turtles remained underground until their yolk reserves were used up. Since we've had quite a bit of rain lately it probably helped to loosen their hatching chambers thus facilitating their emergence.

So keep a close eye out (should you keep box turtles outdoors) it's a lot more fun than an easter egg hunt!

Good luck
Carl
