I have personally measured two male atrox from the same hibernaculum in southern Az. at 7'2" and 6'9" snout to basal segment. The snakes were chilled in a cooler and measured carefully with a string along the spine. If it is possible for there to still be snakes of that size in a state where the average atrox is only 36-40" I think it is quite possible for some real giants to be occur in South Texas where atrox are much larger on the average.
