I wouldn't say abyssus is typically as lightly colored as the snake in the picture, but then again, I don't like to say what is "typical" when you have an animal that is so variable throughout its range. The "standard" abyssus which always seem to be pictured in books are the faded pink animals which, if you are in the central portion of the Grand Canyon, you'll have a good chance of seeing.
