Thanks for the reply. I have never been bit, but when and if I am, The faciotmy sounds more scary than the snake bite. Take it easy, Peace
:: I have met a few people who have had the procedure done for snakebite. It was nearly done on me. My doctor was convinced it was necessary to keep my hand & arm from sustaining permanent nerve damage. I told him that I'd walk out of the hospital before I would allow the procedure. He backed off & did something to monitor the pressure caused by the swelling from the Florida cottonmouth bite. As things turned out, I was right. I left the hospital two days later, still swollen severely, but basically okay. I have zero problems from the bite at this time...no scar, no loss of flexibility, nothing. Had the fasciotomy been performed, I would be scarred for life, & probably never have full use of my right hand. I firmly believe that the vast majority, if not all fasciotomies performed to treat swelling caused by snakebite are ill-advised & unnecessary. Take this for whatever..I am not a doctor.
