There are pest-strips that are simply glue, but there is another kind of strip that's a chunk of chemicals; it works by creating a vapor that kills mites and other tiny insects. Here's the point I wanted to make: the vapor will absorb into the water bowl so only use the poison for 2-3 days at a time and remove your snakes water bowl to ensure they don't get poisoned too.
Actually, when I had a fruit-fly problem (I'd bought some "kitty grass" that turned out to be infested) I discovered that they seem to have an insatiable appetite for room-temp coffee... I could leave a half a cup of coffee near the plants and animals, and by morning dozens of gnats would have drowned themselves! I don't think it's work all by itself, but as one facet of a multi-prong strategy it helped to get rid of the pests!
