In Reply to: Tim, they don\'t look like any gnats I know of. n/p posted by Peter R. on September 24, 2002 at 09:13:04:
:::There seems to be some kind of fly that is investing some of my cages. They appear harmless to the snakes but I have found them hopping around on the poop and there appears to be some sort of "things" in the water dish. I have also found some larva like things in the substrate. Anyone ever have problems like this? More importantly, how do you get rid of them? Thanks.

I can't say for sure because I haven't seen them but I'll bet they are fruit gnats. No matter what type of small flying bug they are a no-pest strip will kill them. IMHO
