What you are talking about.Especially when combined with a lesser known/mentioned book"A Color Guide to Corn Snakes" ;Michael J. McEachern,1991 Advanced Vivarium Systems(If you do not have it get it!).Now it seems that both books have there short comings, such as not enough pics, not printed often enough, not enough in depth explanation (and pics)of hybrids(kings,gopher,bull,milk,etc....)But these are very good books to begin with.I am not against a "guide" to color morphs just price "guides".A price "guide" can deter people from starting a hobby.
This is what I have seen,Let say you are looking for something specific, say a butter or lavender Rich wants xamount for one, Kathy wants xamount for the same,Someone else at a show wants xamount which is 3/4 the price of the first two.Suddenly a price "guide" comes out everyone suddenly wants 1.5 times what they did before. This tends to drive away hobbiests that were starting to get interested in these snakes because the prices are so high that in order to get the snakes they wanted they would have to take out a second morgage.I have seen price "guides" and there effect on coins, comics,Hot Wheels, stamps, beenie babies...etc.Every time an interest is expressed in a particular item, a price "guide" comes along and suddenly someone that would have been willing to sell an item for $5.00 "can't" take less than $20.00 because the "guide" says it is worth $25.00 in this other market 1000 miles away! Not to mention the interest the people putting out this price "guide" have in a particular item.If I have a ghost it is only natural I would want to see it command a high price, this interest doubles,or triples if I am a seller! What if I am publishing this guide and I have spent years on a morph?
