Hi Angela,

Successfully breeding chameleons is not as easy as one might think - there are many factors that come into play - and they dictate whether or not you get hatchlings for your efforts.

Infertile eggs usually mold within a few weeks - or shrink up into almost nothing. Some eggs can looks great for 8 months, then nothing - and when they start shriveling, you have mush inside. The reasons can be mysterious.

You have to start with a confirmed mating. We have been breeding panthers for a few years, and we always make sure they mate. If no copulation occurs, we try again. We introduce the female into the male's enclosure - or a neutral area (outdoors in a tree). If he is not interested - she may not be showing receptive coloration. Sometimes a female repeatedly fends off a male and he loses interest after a while. We try to minimize that by watching our females closely.

Some males will simply not breed. There are several things you can try to encourage them - but once in a while, you find a non breeding male.

If you want to discuss this in length, feel free to drop us an email.
