I would use screws, I think Malamine is a bit heavy for nails, and you could use glue, for a stronger bond with the screws, but I woulden't attempt to use it alone. As for size, make sure it is long enough to go through the malamine with at least a 1/2 inch extra to hold to the other piece. Hope this has helped.
