Thank you everybody for sharing your knowledge and experience with me. (Gotta love the Internet for this type of interaction!)
One point I need to clarify is the idea concerning the Helix Digital Basic thermostat and power outages. I did not explain it well in my writing and I should clarify it. The employee from Big Apple Herp said that when the power goes out, the digital Helix models need to be reset IF the backup battery fails or runs out of juice. In most cases, a short power outage will probably not need you to reset the temp. Perhaps frequent power outages or a really long outage will require you to reset the thing each time until you replace the backup battery. His point was that Big Apple's decision to use an analog system would avoid this potential problem.
Thanks again for all the great input! There are advantages and disadvantages for each unit but I feel pretty confident that for my needs I can't go wrong with either one.
