if you are hell bent on either of the two i would go with a ball python, but remember with most snakes too much handling will stress a snake out. they are not social animals like cats, dogs or birds. honestly though if you want to get a snake as a beginner snake i would go with a corn snake. they are more forgiving with husbandry mistakes ie; heat, humidity, etc. etc. you can get them in all colors, and they rarely get ovber 5 feet long. either or just make sure you get captive bred, and you will do fine.
