My black rat starts to get uncomfortable when the temp gets above 85- just when a burm would start to warm up. Besides, in a year or so the burm will be plenty large enough to crush even an adult rat. A seperate cage for the rat isn't a big expense when compared to an adult cage for a burm, so if you can afford a burm, you can afford another cage for a rat!
