I tried for years to get my mom to let me have a snake. Finally, when I was 10, she allowed me to bring one home. She knew that I loved them but wasnt sure she wanted one in the house. A friend she worked with had just caught a baby black rat snake and she finally broke down. I had it for 11 years and when I took it off to college with me she actually said she missed seeing him. Just MAKE SURE it doesnt get out. A couple of years later I had a corn snake escape. Coming home from school was not fun that day. Luckily I found it within a few hours but I learned my lesson and have not had one escape since. Good Luck. EP
