Perhaps some 12 years ago, when I was a little kid, I saw a Gulf Coast box turtle in a Massachusetts pet store that was nearly 10-12". Of course, I feel like this isn't completely accurate because I was young, but it was big, and it was definitely a box turtle. Until we see a picture, this may not be out of the realm of possibility.
