As far as temps go try to stay in the upper 70's or low 80's. If the temp stays over 84 most of the time you are supposed to get more females and if it is below 84 your supposed to get more males. I'm not sure if this is actually true because I usually adopt my hatchlings out to people before I can ever sex them.
Most people place there eggs in moss, dirt, or sand. You don't even need to cover them up with dirt or sand if you don't want to. Just place them in a small rubbermaid or something with somekind of soft subtrate and you should be fine.
Just mist your subtrate in morning or at night just to keep it from drying out. You don't want it soggy, but you also don't want it dry. In the wild females will place there eggs where they get the right amount of sun, shade, and water. Females are very smart about where to lay there eggs.
