Boids are not like colubrids. They're digestive system has not evolved to be in a constantly active state.
When a boid feeds, it's metabolic rate increases by a factor as high as 44, and the small intestine doubles in mass. This increase places an extra load on the circulatory and respiratory systems. Powerfeeding does not allow for a recovery from this state.
As for "all it really does is make them grow faster"... nope. It also places an unnatural load on the heart and weakens the walls of blood vessels, hence the likelihood an early demise.
