The vet that I go to said the the tail probably was not bitten. If it had been biten to cause the mangled look you speak of it would have broken the skin. My vet said what I was looking at was a type of bacteria that eats flesh. It tends to start at the tail tip where there is very little blood flow and move down. Sometimes very rapidly. I would take her to the vet immediately. If it is the infection I speak of and it does become septic then it could easily kill your dragon. Vet gave me two options, antibiotics which don't work that well because the root of the infection is in the tail tip where there is very little blood. Or amputation. I chose amputation as to not risk the health of my dragon. He is now nicknamed stumpy.
