I have the one that pro exotics sells for $75. I am pleased with it. It doesn't have laser site, but i use it for taking temps of ball python and beardie enclosures so I do it from close up to the surface i care about. The closer the more accurate with these devices. I heat my balls with heat tape so i am concerned with the temp of the bottom of the cage. The temps under lights make the surface the hottest thing in the tank. So going by a surface temp is a good idea. If for example in a beardie enclosure the air temp 1 inch above a rock hide/basking spot is 110 degrees as desired you can bet your bottom dollar that the surface temp is probably way to hot, i would geuss it would be in excess of 140. This is just the way heat transfer works. So to be on the safe side I would rely on surface temps more than air temps.
