Hi Will...
Think about it for a minute and you may realize that you got a good deal. Your spider has a breeding season advantage over the animal offered yesterday. The spider that NERD is offering at $17,500 was hatched only recently. It will be a while before she is ready to be delivered to a purchaser.
You should be able to breed your animal the breeding season before the female being offered for $17,500 is ready to breed. This means that your animal (assuming it's a female) could potentially produce 2 clutches of eggs by the time the animal now being offered could potentially produce 1 clutch of eggs. Additionally, your female could produce her first clutch of eggs a year earlier, which would allow you to either sell spiders a year earlier (and benefit from higher prices) or keep the babies and produce larger quantities of spiders before this could be done with the currently offered female.
The currently offered female is - in my opinion - an excellent deal. Your animal is, however, worth considerably more because it is a year older and - hopefully - a year closer to breeding.
I think you are very fortunate to be a part of the spider project. There are many people who would like to have one that are unable to either because of the cost or because of the extremely limited availability.
