it seems easier to just go with prekilled.

: Well it becomes an article of faith among a lot of people. I think some folks are squeamish about it and think everyone that feeds live is getting off on watching a rodent die.
: IF your snake will take frozen thawed there are a lot of benefits. Convenience, safety, cost, etc.
: However, if you feed live do so responsibly. You sound like you have most of the right idea. Restrain the rodent, let the snake come to it, and decide when to strike. But it doesn't end there. You have to watch for bad strikes even if you have to flip the snake over to see where the rodent's mouth is. If the strike is bad the rodent can bite and chew while its dying. And as the keeper you have to step in and give an assist. Grab the rodent's head and take the bites yourself, wear gloves and crush its head or simply keep the head pulled back away from the snake until its dead.

: : Why is it that so many people rather give their snakes pre-killed or thawed instead of live?? I mean i understand the whole thing about the mouse/rat biting the snake. I personally just hold the mouse in front of the snake and let him grab it...... I dont know if this is a bad thing or not but nothing has happened to my snake and he does it without hesitation.
