Good luck in breeding hets. I'll be doing the same thing next year, buy hets. because the chance of breeding only normals from 4 eggs is only 31%. The chance of breeding at least one het is almost 70%.
another thing... if your het female lays more eggs, the chance of getting at least one albino increases.
If you want to check this again, you could use the formula to calculate this, shown in Bob Garby's reply. n stands for the number of eggs. x stands for the number of albinos. If you want to calculate for AT LEAST 1 albino, you have to use the formula n times and add the outcomes. (for 1 albino, for 2 albinos, for 3 albinos, ......, for n albinos.
you can also use the formula for 0 albinos, and then do 1-P(x=0)
n! means 1 x 2 x 3 x .... x n
so 4!=24 3!=6 2!=2 1!=1 ***0!=1***!
Ralph Davis ones had a clutch of 4 eggs and guess what.... 3 albinos! He's lucky!!
According to your theory he should have at least 3 normals as the chance for 1 normal from 1 egg is 0.75
I copied this from ralph davis' website: "het x het does NOT have to be nice to you………..it may not give you baby homos………it can happen…………and has happened to people I know………….it is called bad luck!!!!!!!!!"
Maybe Ralph Davis can explain the whole thing better. Go to the "Tid bits" part on his website and read the parts "Hets.. what are they?"
Again, good luck in breeding. People who read all this probably don't mind who's right.
Thanks for this cool conversation.
Cheers,
Bas
