: Rare snake
This snakes is commonly called Red Bamboo snake or Red mountain racer. This one in the photo looks like the subspecies Elaphe porphyracea pulchra, from western China. Narrow bands and no stripes on the anterior part of the body.
E. p. vaillanti,(nigrofaciata), has stripes running the full lenght of the body and wider cross bands.
Not rare in it's range, but not offten seen in collections.
Like to know more about it, an Email would be nice,,
Thanks,,
Rex
