Hi Ted. Where did you get the snake? It does look like a Chinese snake, but not that rare. Probably an Elaphe porphyracea nigrofasciata. They aren't very common in captivity, but have a sizable range in the wild. Shouldn't be too hard to find one in China. You can find pictures of it in Schulz's monograph on ratsnakes.
