My friend customizes his own covers by using wire meshing. How fine or how strong the mesh would depend very much on the strength of the snake. As an additional precaution, it'll help to weigh the cover down.

If you aren't much into DIY, any competent carpenter should be able to do the job. Hopefully, this information will be of help.
