Strange Occurrence

Hey everybody, I had an unusual sighting in my little dart frog enclosure today. I always try to keep a few more flies in with my froglets than they can eat so that they never go without sustenance. However, today I saw my froglet going after a little squirmy worm-like creature that was half-buried in the substrate. When he didn't get it after a few tries, he ate some flies in the vicinity . . . so I took that opportunity to remove the little creature with some tweezers. It was a hydei larva! After examining it closely to make sure it was definitely a ff larva, I put it back in the tank where it was promptly devoured.

I had no idea that the larva could survive in the substrate. It must have hatched from some eggs laid by one of the flies, because I dust every day, and would have noticed a larva.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? Just curious.
