Alligator Lizard Help.

Hi. My mother's fiance caught a lizard outside today. I believe it is an alligator lizard because I immediately went online to see lizards native to California, which is where I live. My lizard is about 8-10 inches long and half of it is in tail. He is greyish brownish with black stripes with a bit of white along them. His eyes seem slightly orangish and he is calm, mostly only runs when startled. I have put him in a cage with my blue belly lizard (my mothers fiance insisted), and they, luckily, don't seem to even notice each other.

I would like if someone could tell me about alligator lizards, and maybe confirm if mine is one. What do they eat, how much water do they need, how can I tame it, how do I know what sex it is, age, housing, etc.. If you could please tell me anything you think I would need to know to keep one as a pet, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Rebecca
