plated lizard -- injury care??

today i bought a plated lizard that was on sale (i know i know) becuase it had been bitten by another lizard and lost a toe.

he is very sweet and tame, and i have been pouring hydrogen peroxide on his wounds and then smearing them with antibiotic ointment.

i read that they come from africa, and eat both bugs and plants, and like a warm dry habitat with places to burrow and a large water dish. is this correct? any info on plated lizards would be much appreciated.
