De-venomized snakes

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether there are any long-term health effects related to digestion effort in snakes that have had their venom glands removed? Since the digestion process has evolved to be simultaneously internal and external, is there a cost in energy expenditure when the internal component has been removed? (Please, no hate-mail from purists!)
