I've noticed thermal orientation in captive colubrids. Remember, heat-sensing organs in boids and crotalids were selected for on the basis of pre-existing sensory neurons, and most vertebrates have heat-sensitive neurons, so it's not really surprising.
: I seem to recall reading somewhere that some colubrids have primitive heat sensing capabilities, along the lines of
: crotalids and boids. Does anyone have info on this?
